Strawberry Field takes part in the Big Butterfly Watch
Some of the team at Strawberry Field recently took part in Butterfly Conservation UK's Big Butterfly Watch. They spent 15 minutes recording the butterflies and moths visiting the pollinator-friendly flowers on our terrace. This information was then shared with Butterfly Conservation UK to help them assess the health of the environment. Participating in the Big Butterfly Watch is not only crucial for gathering valuable conservation data, it also encourages our team to connect with nature, a practice that greatly benefits mental health and wellbeing.
Butterfly Conservation UK's Big Butterfly Watch is a UK-wide survey to help assess the health of our environment by counting butterflies. Butterflies are vital parts of the ecosystem as both pollinators and components of the food chain, but butterfly numbers have been in steep decline. Following the 2024 Big Butterfly Count results, Butterfly Conservation UK declared a butterfly emergency, highlighting the urgent need for action.

Strawberry Field is taking part in the Big Butterfly Count as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, which includes supporting the biodiversity of our garden and the wellbeing of our community. Early this year, Strawberry Field participated in No Mow May, an initiative where lawns are left to grow longer to provide vital food sources for bees and butterflies, and the RSPB's Big Garden Bird Watch. By taking part, Strawberry Field has been able to contribute to nationwide campaigns while engaging our visitors and online audience. You can learn more about our commitment to sustainability here.
The Big Butterfly Watch runs from 18th July to 10th August. Find out how you can take part here.
