Strawberry Field takes part in No Mow May

28 Apr 2025

Strawberry Field is taking part in No Mow May, the nationwide campaign to support wildlife and biodiversity. Throughout the month of May, we will leave a section of our garden unmown, allowing wildflowers to bloom freely and provide essential food and shelter for pollinators like bees, butterflies and beetles.

No Mow May is an annual initiative encouraging people to let their lawns and wildflowers grow freely to help nature. No lawn is too small! Even the smallest wild patch can provide vital food needed by bees and butterflies. With pollinators in steep decline across the UK, actions like No Mow May are so important in creating habitats and reversing the loss of wildflower-rich spaces.

Sections of the Strawberry Field gardens that are usually neatly maintained will be allowed to grow long, encouraging the growth of native wildflowers such as daisies, dandelions and buttercups. These flowers are not only beautiful but also essential nectar sources for bees and other insects.

Pollinators play a critical role in maintaining ecosystems and are responsible for fertilising many of the crops and plants that humans and wildlife depend on. However, the UK has lost 97% of its wildflower meadows since the 1930s, significantly impacting pollinator populations. No Mow May provides a practical and accessible way for organisations like ours to contribute to national efforts to support biodiversity.

Strawberry Field is more than a place of music and cultural significance - it is a place of sanctuary and support for its local community. Its participation in environmental initiatives like No Mow May is part of a broader commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
