Strawberry Field introduces stoma-friendly toilets

25 Nov 2025

Strawberry Field has taken an important step toward greater inclusivity with the introduction of stoma-friendly features in its accessible toilet facilities. These upgrades represent the site's ongoing commitment to ensuring that every visitor feels comfortable, welcome and supported during their time at the attraction.

The accessible toilet already included a full-length mirror, but now has an added shelf, hooks, and a disposal bin. Small but meaningful additions that make a significant difference to people living with a stoma. These additions join the existing accessibility features at Strawberry Field, including a fully equipped Changing Places facility.

Stoma-friendly toilet at Strawberry Field

More than 200,000 people in the UK have a stoma, according to Colostomy UK. Many stoma users experience anxiety when planning days out due to the lack of suitable toilet facilities. Standard toilets often do not include a mirror to help with bag changes or a bin to safely dispose of waste. By adding these essential features, Strawberry Field aims to remove barriers and ensure that stoma users can visit without compromising their hygiene or dignity.

Commercial Manager Sue Harvey said, “Looking back, we can’t believe we didn’t make this change sooner. While working toward our Gold accolade with Green Tourism, a member of their team asked whether we had a stoma-friendly toilet. It opened our eyes to the challenges people with stoma bags face in public restrooms, and how a few simple additions can make a huge difference. It’s a reminder that accessibility is an ongoing journey. We’re always learning, always improving, and committed to making Strawberry Field as inclusive and welcoming as possible for every visitor.”
