Steps to Work trainee wins Strawberry Field 'Shine On!' Award
Recent Steps to Work graduate Sophie has been honoured with Strawberry Field’s new 'Shine On!' Award at the latest graduation ceremony. Created in memory of long-standing Strawberry Field supporter Lisa Graham, this special award recognises graduates of the Steps to Work programme who have shown outstanding resilience, courage and determination.
When Sophie first joined the programme, she was feeling stuck. Sophie is someone who values her own space – it’s where she feels safe. But deep down, she knew that staying in that comfort zone wouldn’t help her move forward. So, she made a brave choice to step out and challenge herself.
Sophie said, "My journey on the Steps to Work programme was challenging, but in a good way, as it showed me that I am capable of handling challenges and pushing through. Facing new situations and change did affect my anxiety, but each step taught me resilience and self-belief. Receiving the 'Shine On!' award was a lovely reminder of how far I’ve come and that I can navigate change, even when it feels daunting."

Adele Murphy, Steps Programme Manager, said. "Sophie's journey wasn’t always smooth. There were moments she questioned whether she had made the right decision, and times when it all felt too overwhelming. But, she kept going! Sophie didn’t give up – even when it would have been easier to, and that's why she wins our 'Shine On!' award."
With Sophie's newfound confidence, Sophie has recently applied and been accepted to study Digital Art and Animation at university. It has been incredible to witness Sophie's transformation. She’s stepped into a new chapter, one filled with hope, creativity and a bright future.
