Things to do in Liverpool in the Spring

20 Mar 2026

Spring is in the air! After a long winter, there's no better time to get outside and explore. Whether you're a visitor or a local, Liverpool and the surrounding areas come alive in the warmer months. From sweeping parklands and coastal walks to world-class museums and waterfront dining, there's something for everyone — and you're never far from shelter should the clouds roll in.

Strawberry Field Liverpool

If you're looking for things to do in Liverpool this spring, Strawberry Field is the perfect destination. The historic gardens (where John Lennon played as a child) come alive with daffodils, crocuses, tulips and a stunning cherry blossom tree in bloom. Children can discover the site's rich history using Strawberry Field's garden explorer map.

If it does start to rain, as it often does in spring, the interactive exhibition offers a welcome retreat from April showers. Inside, you can explore the fascinating story of the Strawberry Field children's home and Lennon's childhood. Highlights include his iconic 'Imagine' piano, a banjo played by The Quarrymen and personal stories shared by his childhood friends and sister.

Pier Head and Albert Dock

Liverpool's Pier Head is a wonderful place to stretch your legs and take in some fresh air this spring. With sweeping views across the River Mersey towards the Wirral, the waterfront shimmers on a sunny day - and should the weather turn, you're spoilt for choice when it comes to nearby attractions:

  • Royal Liver Building 360 — iconic panoramic views from one of Liverpool's most recognisable landmarks
  • The Beatles Story — the world's largest permanent Beatles exhibition
  • Open Eye Gallery — a leading contemporary photography and film gallery
  • Museum of Liverpool — free entry exploring the city's social and cultural history
  • Liverpool Maritime Museum — free entry tracing the city's seafaring heritage

When you're ready to eat, Mann Island and Albert Dock offer a wide selection of cafes and restaurants. Albert Dock is also home to independent shops where you can pick up souvenirs and gifts from local artists and makers.

Sefton Park

One of Liverpool's best-loved green spaces, Sefton Park is a true locals' favourite. As soon as the sun comes out, you'll find families and friends heading here for a kickabout, a picnic or a barbecue. Spanning an impressive 200 acres, the park is packed with things to see and do, from fishing at the boating lake to exploring the iconic Sefton Park Palm House and the enchanting Fairy Glen. In spring, the grounds burst into colour with carpets of bluebells and golden daffodils.

When it's time to refuel, you'll find coffee and pizza vans dotted around the park's perimeter or head just a short walk away to the vibrant Lark Lane for a scoop of gelato.

Liverpool Cathedral

Liverpool Cathedral is worth a visit whatever the weather, but on a Spring day with clear skies the Cathedral Towel Experience is fantastic. Take in a breathtaking 360Ëš view from the rooftop of the cathedral and you may even see Blackpool Tower!  Once you've been to the top of the highest cathedral in the UK, take a wander through the sunken cemetery gardens. Grade I listed by English Heritage, the garden is home to the Huskisson memorial and a natural spring!

Fancy traveling a little bit further afield? Not far from Liverpool are some fantastic places which make for an enjoyable Spring day out.

Parkgate Promenade

Once a thriving seaside resort with golden sands, Parkgate is now home to a vast saltmarsh and wetland landscape. The village sits alongside an RSPB nature reserve, making it a fantastic spot for birdwatching. Keep your eyes peeled for Skylarks, Redshanks and Marsh Harriers - and don't forget your binoculars!

Despite the shoreline long since giving way to marshland, Parkgate still retains the charm of a classic seaside village. Treat yourself to an ice cream from one of the seafront shops or settle in for a portion at the award-winning Parkgate Fish and Chips.

Ness Botanic Gardens

Based on the Wirral peninsula, Ness Botanic Gardens offers 64 acres of beautiful gardens, with views of the River Dee and North Wales. With a rock garden dating back 125 years and the colourful water garden, Ness Botanic Gardens offers a beautiful place to spend a spring day. From late April, rhododendrons bloom in fabulous masses of pink, blue and white. Ness Botanic Gardens offer a variety of workshops, tours and classes, and there's a fabulous gift shop and cafe on site too.
