Volunteers Week: Meet our Volunteers

4 Jun 2026

This week, we're celebrating all the wonderful volunteers who donate their time and skills to Strawberry Field.

Volunteers provide invaluable support across Strawberry Field, from meet and greet and reception, to fundraising and gardening. In 2025, 61 volunteers delivered a whopping 10,705 hours of meaningful work.

Meet Janet

Janet has volunteered at Strawberry Field since the site opened in 2019. She originally volunteered with the Fresh Expression team, collating statistics about service users and helping out at our Get Back to Play sessions. Today, she weekly hosts Include Me sessions in the prayer space and conducting visitor surveys to inform Strawberry Fields offer.

Janet says, "I have always thought of Strawberry Field as a very special place from the moment I was invited to the official opening. It generates a place of peace and joy to all those who enter, which is a constant in the life of Strawberry Field. I felt that when work and family commitments allowed, I would volunteer in whatever area in Strawberry Field that needed a volunteer. I really enjoy volunteering at Strawberry field and I know that my late Dad (94 years old) was very proud of me because when he was a child and his Dad was a serving soldier, his Mum struggled to clothe and feed herself and 4 children, the Salvation Army was the only organisation that was there to help them, a fact he never forgot and talked about with fondness. Thank you Strawberry Field for all the opportunities you have given me over the years and will continue to give me."

Meet Brendan

Brendan says, “As a volunteer, part of my role is talking to people and giving them information about Strawberry Field and our Steps programme which helps people with barriers to work. Also, I know Gavin works with my strengths which is a great quality”

Meet Amy

Amy has been volunteering at Strawberry Field for eighteen months and has worked in our kitchen and in our Meet and Greet team welcoming our visitors from all over the world. Amy says that she loves volunteering at Strawberry Field because she has found a sense of independence and enjoys meeting new people.
